There is no older symbol than the snake. East and West have both read it two ways at once — guardian and destroyer, light and shadow.
In ancient Egypt the cobra rose from the pharaoh's crown as the uraeus, a guardian spirit of royal power: mysterious, watchful, full of force. In China she is the Spirit Snake — the numinous serpent, the wisdom coiled at the root of things, the quiet promise that what ends can begin again.
This piece holds that duality in porcelain. A rose-pink serpent coils up and around, one unbroken line — protector and warning in the same body, beauty and danger wound together, exactly as the old stories tell it.
