On a night in ancient Greece, the dark hung over the world like a black curtain. Young Dionysus, god of wine, was stumbling home from a feast, a wine jug in his hand, wine spilling onto the ground with every loose step. The sweetness drifted through the night and woke a spirit snake nearby.
It slid out slowly — huge, but graceful. It meant to quietly steal the jug from the half-dreaming god, but it got impatient, and knocked the jug right over. The wine ran out across the earth. And that, they say, is how the world got its revelry.
Centuries later, that same jug and that same snake travelled east along the Silk Road, where a cup from the Mediterranean met an Eastern serpent — and settled into this rug.
